A report published by a workers’ advocacy group says the country’s biggest private employer, Walmart refuses to accept physicians’ notes, researchers employees who should look after a relative that is sick and punishes employees for absences.
The report accuses of violating the Americans among other legislation Walmartone. The team claimed in a previous complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, also in a lawsuit filed last month, that employees were discriminated against by Walmart.
“Walmart should fully obey the law that nobody is punished for a disability-related lack or for taking good care of a loved one with a significant medical condition,” said Dina Bakst, a founder and president of A Better Balance, the advocacy group that prepared the report.
Walmartone UK explained although it hadn’t assessed the report but contested the decisions of the group, also stated that the presence policies of the company helped make sure there were workers to assist clients while protecting employees from covering others’ responsibilities.
“We know that partners might need to miss work on event, and we have procedures in place to help them,” Randy Hargrove, a spokesman for Walmart, stated. The business reviews each worker’s situation individually, he stated,”in accordance with company policy and the law”
